New Zealand - landing in Queenstown

Today I flew to Queenstown in New Zealand. There was a lot of cloud, but as the plane came in to land I saw the city and its lake below me.

Then we circled and got views of the snow covered mountains.

And the glacial river.

As we landed, the jagged rocks reminded me that this is a very young land in geological terms.

You really can’t see anything like these pictures in Australia because we simply don’t have this geology.

Then I went up into the pass to where I’m staying.

It started drizzling as we landed, and got steadily worse as I got further away from Queenstown towards the west coast. I had dinner at an old hotel on the way,

but after the stop, there was no more stopping for me as the rain got worse. The scenery was probably fantastic - craggy mountains and gorgeous lakes - but there was a lot of mistiness and rain. I reached my snug and cosy accommodation and listened to the rain. I saw a bumblebee. No wonder scientists couldn’t work out how they fly!
