Last Day in Sitka

I planned to walk around Swan Lake, visit the park near the ferry when I got the shuttle to the ferry, and go to the heritage centre again, on the last day, but this was all scuttled by the rain. In a break in the clouds I did go to the heritage centre. I spent a long time there talking to a carver. In a separate part of the centre they are making a canoe in the traditional way by hollowing out a cedar log. So far it has taken them since January, and they are not slacking off.

I also watched a film on the history of the people here, and attended a talk about sea otters. When I went to the centre on the first day, I talked a lot to a beader. I still think their indoor totem pole display is really good.
