Santa Lucía Park

When my plane actually took off from New York, I actually did see some things that looked like the New York you read about.

I arrived at midnight. So today I visited the local park, which is a quite important place. Firstly, it’s where the Spanish defeated the indigenous population, and there’s a statue of the archbishop who lead the conquest. It was used as a fort and as a place of worship subsequently.

Secondly, it’s a volcano, with lots of interesting rocks - like the tessellated basalt in this photo.

Thirdly, it’s very vertical. It has many steps.

Because of the height differences, when they turned it into gardens, they were able to create a number of different types of garden, including one Japanese.

And it has great views of the city.
